PROPER CPAP MASK CARE

The best way to ensure your CPAP treatment is effective is to keep your mask in good condition. To keep your machine in top shape, you will need to clean your CPAP equipment daily and do a deeper clean weekly. Doing so will prevent mold and bacteria growth and ensure all parts function properly. Regular cleanings of your CPAP supplies can also prevent you from contracting upper respiratory infections.

Every day, wipe your CPAP mask with warm water and a small amount of detergent. Use a clean towel to wipe away the detergent and let the mask air dry. If you have a humidifier, empty the water each day and refill it with fresh water each night. Once a week, take your CPAP tubing and mask and wash them warm soapy water.

If you have a humidifier, disinfect the water chamber by rinsing it with a vinegar and water solution. Typically, these can be run through the dishwasher on the top shelf – be sure to check the manufacturer’s recommendations.

Cleaning Devices

A recent development is the creation of UV light disinfecting devices. These devices claim to clean or disinfect your CPAP machine in as little as 30 minutes. You simply place your CPAP equipment inside and the machine does the rest. It is important to note that these products are not FDA-approved.
